The Housing and Planning Bill laid before UK parliament on 13th October 2015 proposes to introduce 'permission in principle' on land allocated for development and to give the government significant new powers to intervene in the planning and plan-making processes.
As with any new Bill the devil will be in the detail which is yet to be decided but some of the key headline proposals include:
Automatic planning permission in principle (PiPs) on brownfield sites
New affordable starter homes
Targeted powers to ensure that all councils get Local Plans in place by 2017
Pay to stay for tenants on higher incomes who are living in social housing
Planning reforms to support small builders to encourage 20,000 custom and self-built homes a year by 2020
